On May 5, 1940, China’s Wartime Service Corps organized a national “On-the-Air Annual Meeting”, connecting amateur radio stations across the country for technical exchange and coordinated communication. This is recognized as one of the earliest organized amateur radio events in China.

In recognition of that date, May 5th has been commemorated by many in China’s amateur radio community as “Chinese Amateur Radio Day”, with various activities held by clubs, licensed operators, and local associations to promote knowledge sharing and practical operation.
